This is a photo of my latest re-creation, a Biedermeier Jewel Cabinet and matching footstool. This was a comission which took a while to complete. I started with a 2" photograph in a book on Biedermeier furniture, and a period construction drawing of a Biedermeier fall front secretary. I used forced perspective to reduce the overall height, making the proportions from the pull-out tray to the top smaller than the original period piece. The new owner has an antique clock which sets on top, and wanted to easily reach it. The footstool is made after an original example I found at the Maastricht antique show earlier this year. The seat lifts up to expose a secret fully upholstered interior compartment, and is locked with a key. For more examples of my re-creations, visit my Portfolio page. |

| When I discovered the wonderful English marquetry clock at the Met, I had to re-create it for myself. I made the carcase out of some clean quarter sawn white oak which I had been saving, and covered it with a variety of sawn veneers which I purchased in Paris. David Lindow, of Hartwig Clock Co, in Gravity, Pennsylvania made the works, face and hands. I had the face engraved in London. The bronze mounts and hardware came from Optimum Brasses, also in England. I was so pleased with the results that I am currently making two more in the same style, as this one sold rather quickly. | ||||||||||||||||||
